My WLS surgeon required that I lose atleast 10 lbs before surgery. This
helps with the liver. I started drinking the protein shakes and upping my
protein and started cutting the carbs from my diet. Drink alot of water
and this will help flush your system.

It's hard! I had to lose 10lbs before surgery also. I only lost 5 lbs and
I think that was the last day before surgery when I was on a clear liquid
diet. For the week before surgery I drank 2 Atkins shakes for breakfast
and lunch and then ate a dinner with lean meat and a lot of veggies to
clean out my system. Yes there were lots of times when I cheated! Then
the day before surgery I was on nothing but clear liquids-chicken
broth,juice,lots of water.

Chrystal, I drink ALOT of plain old water, which fills me up. I keep my
calorie intake at around 1000 cals a day. I eat what ever I want as long as
I don't go over the 1000 calorie limit. And here's the hard part (but the
magic bullet) I walk 30 minutes every other evening. I'm at 300, down from
328.

I wasn't required to lose weight before surgery, but I did go on a high
protein diet of my own volition, to try to shrink that fatty liver a bit
:-) I don't know how long you have to lose this weight, but I really
believe that going with the South Beach plan may work for you... not to
mention that it will get you on the right track for your post-op life...
it's all about HIGH protein after surgery! :-) Give it a shot. Check this

GOOD LUCK!!! :-)
