Question:
Has anyone ever had Colon Hydrotheraphy?
If so what was your experience like? Would you recommend it? — Kimberley D. (posted on July 13, 2004)

I never heard of that but it sounds like an enema to me. Good luck.

Check with your surgeon! Mine says this is not only not a good thing, it
can be a very BAD thing. It can upset the balance of bacteria in the bowel,
which in turn can cause chronic diarrhea, gas, and other unpleasant and
potential dangerous things.

I have done it, and certainly would not recommend against it for anyone,
with their doc's blessing. I asked my surgeon, he found it amusing but
harmless, as did my PCP. A good facility will have a sealed unit, privacy,
very sanitary, sensitive to the delicate nature of this whole thing, etc.
Every 2nd or 3rd treatment or so, they restore the balance to the colon, as
it doesn't deplete at once. Of course, they did want to sell me a ton of
expensive stuff, but the actual therapy was fine (note, I didn't say
fun-lol), and during the treatments, my therapist was good at taking my
mind off the whole thing, while we swapped cat 'n kid stories, what is life
like as a WLS person, and I learned a lot about the colon. Where is it? Is
THAT was that is? Ohhhhhhhhhhhhh, so many lil tidbits that have helped
since. My ins changed and not sure if I can go back, except on my own
nickel, but I will if I must. It's not something you do week after week
after week. They like to see a series of 3-6 treatments every 6 months or
year (YMMV), but not constantly.
