Question:
Is it safe to have wine with friends on the weekends will it do anything to harm the
pouch. Can someone please let me know because I enjoy having drinks on the weekends but i've only been dring wine as oppose to the rum and coke I used to drink before. — grivera01 (posted on October 28, 2003)

I have had shots of tequilla at 4 mos. out so it is possible to have
alcohol... just be careful and take it slow until you find what does and
doesn't bother you. My doc said alcohol in moderation won't hurt. (Bet he
didn't mean pure shots though... LOL) gail -95

Hi there! I hear two sides to this question-One being- just say no to
alcohol because it can cause ulcers, liver damage more quickly in posties
than it would a pre-op and so on..... I, too enjoyed a drink every now and
then before my surgery and now at 7 months out - I am enjoying alcoholic
beverages again. My taste has changed quite a bit- Wine seems too acidic -
I drink beer ( I don't have any trouble w/ the carbonation) I also find
that rum and pinapple juice is quite refreshing. My favorite now that the
weather is cooler is a little amaretto in my de-caf coffee. Keep in mind
that you will feel the effects of alcohol much faster ( to me that's an
added benefit lol) You also have to remember that we're taking in carbs and
sugars when we drink- however I haven't had any problems with doing it
every now and then and my weight loss hasn't been affected. RNY March 28,
03 -124 lbs. I am 45 lbs from goal and very happy! Good luck and Cheers!

I don't know whether we should or shouldn't, I can only tell you that I
did, at 5 weeks out. We went to a going-away party for a friend, and I
drank zinfandel wine, really watered down with a lot of ice. It was fine,
but I started to feel tipsy after only a couple of sips. I really slowed
it way down, and kept adding ice to the glass. My son had this surgery
last May, and he advised me to stick with non-carbonated drinks, if I'm
having any at all. I don't plan on making drinking a habit, as I never
drank much before, but it's nice to enjoy it once in a while. As with
everything else, I think moderation is the key.

Hi,
I enjoy a glass (or two) of wine every night. I have had no problem with
this. My doctor told me not to worry about it and to enjoy it.

I am almost 4 months out and I have had alcohol. The only thing I like are
the Smirnoff Ice. When I first tried I could only drink a few sips. But in
time I am able to drink about 2 at a time. One night I had 4 but that was
over the course of many hours. Just take it slow and be prepared to feel
the buz very quickly!

My surgeon has no problems with a glass of wine as long as we waited at
least a year to have alcohol. Just be aware that you will get intoxicated
much easier now.

I was about a year out when I started having wine and magarita's, I just
found that I could only have 1 or 2 and then I was drunk or really tired.
It pretty much has stayed that way. A couple of drinks and I'm done.
