Question:
If you can eat more than a 1/2 cup of food at one sitting is something wrong?
And this includes the denser foods. I can eat more than a half cup of meat. Think something is wrong? — Eleanore Davis (posted on October 13, 2003)

How far out are you? Early in the beginning I couldn't eat that much, but
now at 6 months out I eat around a half cup to a cup depending on what it
is.

it depends on how fast you eat too. the faster i eat the less i can manage!
rememebr your stomach is like a bucket with a hole in it, if you fill it
slow the contents move out at the same speed they go in if you fill it fast
it tends to overflow! andit takes months and months for the swelling to go
down you might not be able to eat as much in the months to come! as long as
you are doing wha tyour doctor says i would not worry about it, do not
compare yourself to others everyone is differnt!

What type of 'surgery' did you have? If you are a lap band for example, I
would say , you might need a 'fill'. If your a DS - could be your pouch is
just larger than others.
BUT , if you are a RNY, and you feel your level of 'eating' is not standard
- at this early point, I would have your doctor order you an Upper GI test
to see how your pouch is functioning.
With insurance companies still favoring "RNY" the chances of not
having food limiations exist. It doesnt happen often at 1% in the RNY but
it can happen. To know for sure' and to 'rest' your mind. Have him order
the Upper GI; if that tests shows the problem. you'll have an idea what
you are dealing with.

Not sure if something is wrong, but I'm wondering if you had stretched your
pouch alittle. You might want to ask your surgeon or talk to others about
it. I can eat alittle more then I did before and I'm guessing I had
stretched my pouch. Good-Luck!

How many ounces is that? And are you drinking with or right after meals?
Or eating way too slow so food is leaving the tummy as you are putting it
in? If its only a few ounces of dense meat, small bites, chewing well, and
not drinking with meals, it sounds fine. Remember, surgeons make different
size pouches to start with and they do stretch NATURALLY over time. What
you can eat may not be the same amount another RNY'er can eat. Now if you
told me that you could eat and eat like you did pre-op, I'd say get it
checked out for a mechanical problem.

at 1 year out, the BTC dietician said I should be eating 1 - 1 1/2 cups
each meal.
