Question:
after wieght loss does feet get smaller too?

No one hear has mentioned this but i have constant feet sweeling and wanted to know is your feet shrink after you lose a lot of weight, I currently wear a size 10 shoe and have over 200 pair, that i love and don't want to give away. Could someone please enlighten me!    — nicole D. (posted on September 16, 2003)

Sorry to tell you this, but mine have always shrunk when I lose weight. So far I have lost 65lbs and have gone from a 9.5 wide to an 8.5 regular. Not everyone loses that much, but most lose a size or so, I think. Not only do you lose fat on your feet, but the less weight you have pressing down on them, the less they will "spread". Sorry!

Well, I was also a size 10, sometimes 11, and now I'm 9.5 after 7 weeks. Don't know how much smaller they'll get. Try to take this the way it is intended, but I would say that 200 pair that you can't part with sounds like you may have some issues that need to be resolved. Are they somehow security for you, or maybe they're just a collector's hobby? I think I own 3 pair of shoes and one set of sneakers. Before kids I had a dozen or so, but I honestly think 200 pair is a sign of a problem.

I am almost 6mos out and have just started noticing my shoes are falling off my feet! I have been a size 7 ...and, now I would purchase a 6 or 6.5. Now, if only my dress sizes were the same!! (LOL!!!)

I am 5 1/2 weeks post-op, and have lost 40 lbs and 32 inches, I was wearing a size 9, not for length, but because my feet were so swollen and wide. I had to go buy acouple of new pairs, and they were size 7 1/2 medium. So the answer to your questions, is yes, your feet will probley change size, and 200 shoes, 1st is way to many shoes 2nd you could donate to charity and use them as a write off.

Hello there, I will be a year out on the 18th, I have gone from a size 10, and am now able to fit into a 81/2-9 kind of strange, but my feet don't look like big boats anymore. Big hugs Melody D.

I wore a size 7 or a 7 1/2 wide before surgery. I now wear a 6 1/2 medium.

I was a 12 wide and now a 9. Even in high school I was a 10-11 normally. I can't believe I got MY feet into a 9.

I have gone from an 8.5-9 to a 9.5-10 So I am wearing a bigger shoe than before. I'm just glad this is the only thing that has gotten bigger.

Nicole, back away from the shoes. :) Yes, your feet will probably be smaller. I have gone from an 11 to a size 9 1/2 shoe in six months. I wore my favorites until they were just slipping around and I was afraid I would fall and break my neck. Also, having a shoe fly off your foot while you are walking through a store is super embarassing. I like good shoes but the women's shelter here was so happy to get my leftovers. Start detaching yourself from your shoe fetish now cause your foot size may change. Remember, keep walking. Good luck. Ann in TX

hiya~ mine went from 7.5 wide to 5 regular... you may want to make some $$ for new shoes by auctioning off your old ones on ebay! kate

My feet definitely got smaller. I went from a 12W to a 9 1/2 - 10 M. Now I can buy inexpensive shoes and much more choices.

Amanda's not alone. Even after losing 140 lbs., my shoe size didn't change, either. So, maybe you'll be in that distinct minority whose shoe size doesn't change. Murphy's Law being what it is, though -- the eBay suggestion is a good one! Whatever you do, don't buy new shoes til you reach and *stabilize* at your goal weight, just in case your feet continue to get smaller than you expected.

Nicole, after being 13 months out and 146 pounds down the only difference in my feet I have noticed is that I've gone from wearing a wide width to being able to take a regular size 10 shoe. To me that isn't a huge difference, but one big enough to make me buy new shoes. I don't mind the change and having to buy new one's as this shows more loss than I ever imagined it would. Best of luck to you! Open RNY 8/20/02 -146 pounds.

Nicole, I'm almost 18 months post op, I have lost 170 pounds, gone from a 10 shoe to a 9 and from a size 8 ring to a 4, so the rest of your body does shrink too. Cindi

Whenever I have lost weight in the past my shoe size has gone down. So I know personally, I expect to go down a shoe size. Maybe yours will, or maybe they won't. Think of it this way, would you rather stay over weight or lose your shoe collection? If they do get too big, look at selling some of them on Ebay, there is a good market for nice shoes on ebay, and you could use the money to buy new shoes.

I've lost 124 pounds and I've gone from a 7.5 shoe to a 5.5 - 6 shoe -- guess it depends on how much 'storage' you foot is holding *smile*
