Question:
I am 6 days post-op and no matter how much I drink and no matter how much I brush my
teeth I have a nasty taste in my mouth. I wonder what that is? — Eleanore Davis (posted on August 12, 2003)

It sounds like the metal taste of Ketosis! I learned from my support
group that drinking a little bit of grape juice will help get this taste
out of your mouth.

I think you are probably dealing with the aftertaste from the anastesia. I
know I spelled that wrong-think there should be an h in there
somewhere-sorry. I had that really bad taste until about 3-4 weeks
afterward. It gets better.

Welcome to Ketosis! I used ALtoid strips that melt on your tongue...they
help a little

If you can tolerate frozen items... popsicles helped me a great deal witht
that nasty aftertaste. And, do not fret.. it will go away soon enough and
be a distant memory!!

sugar free peppermints helped me. Just don't go crazy with them! LOL! It
will go away soon! :~)

I still get this from time to time and boy does it make water taste
disgusting! I like tart things to combat the taste/metallic feeling in my
mouth like homemade lemon/limeade made with splenda. Plain water may do
nothing but gross you out so switch to flavored stuff and keep on sipping!

What about THRUSH? Have you considered that? It was a nightmare in my
mouth.

Brush your teeth and tongue and get used to it. The good news is it means
your body is burning MAXIMUM FAT!!! I lost 3 pants sizes the first month,
so I chose to stay in ketosis, by all but eliminating carbs, for close to 5
months. Doc said it was okay as long as I got in my water to wash the
ketones out of my body to prevent gout. Worked good because I went from a
36W to 24W in 6 months. It's nasty but it means your body is doing what it
needs to.
