Question:
What medicines can I take after surgery?
Currently I take celexa, ultracet and diovan HCT for blood pressure. I know they are going to take the blood pressure medicine away because of the diuretic in it. Will I still be able to take celexa for depression and ultracet for arthritis pain? — Eleanore Davis (posted on August 4, 2003)

Take away your diuretic? Why? Do they feel that your body will get your
edema under control that quickly post-op? I had my sugery 4 mos ago. They
kept me on Micardis HCTZ until I lost enough weight (40lbs) to drop my
blood pressure to normal. They tried doing away with the HCTZ all together
at that time, but when they did I gained 14 lbs in 48 hours (my kidneys are
fine). Since then, under Dr's orders, I have continued to take 12.5 mg HCTZ
and will continue to do so until my hormones and Edema are under control.
The belief is that the fat creates estrogen which causes water retention.
Once I lose more weight, they hope that they can discontinue the diuretic
at that time.
