Question:
When reading labels how much is too much when it comes to sugar and carbs?
Whenever I go shopping I try to read the labels but I really don't know where to draw the line as what is too much for carbs and sugar. Does anyone have a guideline?? — Denise D. (posted on July 31, 2003)

Sugar grams really shouldn't exceed 6 grams per serving and as for carbs it
depends on how YOU feel about them. I personally try and keep starch carbs
below 25 grams a day, total others keep it below 20 per meal <gulp>.
When reading labels I TRY to have the proteins exceed the carbs, but have
to admit when I was spaghetti (franco-American canned stuff), I have some.
It's rare these days, but I had a LOT of it when I was newly postop. Good
luck!

A good formula for watching carbs is this..... take the total number of
carb grams then deduct the total protein and fiber grams from it... if the
number you get is less than 10 it's okay.Sugar grams are kind of an
individual thing. Some people can tolerate more than others without dumping
but I believe the number to try and stay under is 6.
