Question:
Does anyone do the weight watcher diet instead of the high protein?
I am at 6 mos. and my weight loss has really slowed if not halted. So, I was thinking about going to the lean meat and many veg. and fruit diet like I did with weight watchers. Has anyone had success doing this? — Kim N. (posted on July 28, 2003)

I don't do it but I know of several people from my support group that do
Weight Watchers post op with much success. Good luck!

I had never done WW before but I'm also wondering if I'm getting enough
nutrients to keep by body out of starvation. A women in the office I'm
doing an intership in is a WW leader and told me I would at least get 34
points and gave me a couple books to help me track things for a couple
weeks. I don't think I'm physically capable of getting that much in...even
thought I eat 5-6 small meals a day.

Assuming you had an RNY I would not do this. You must get a certain amount
of protein to keep your body healthy. There is nothing wrong with the lean
meat and you should be eating like that anyway but if you plan to decrease
your protein lower than 60 grams then this is not safe in my opinion. Talk
to your surgeon before going this route so he or she is at least aware of
it and watch certain bloodwork closer. Veggies and fruits are good things
to eat but must always remain a smaller portion of your diet with the RNY.
Consider dropping the carbs lower for a while and increasing water and
possibly protein.

I'm a year out, but felt stuck from 5 months. In June, I joined weight
watchers and also increased exercise and have lost 15 pounds which is much
more than the 3 pounds in the previous 3 months! I found that I had to eat
MORE to get in the points, but apparently it's what my metabolism needed.
No reason to give up protein, you can fit it into the points easily.
