Question:
Should we not drink coffee 2 weeks before surgery?
I am officially 13 days away from surgery and I want to know should I give up my coffee now? Then when can I go back to drinking it after surgery? — Eleanore Davis (posted on July 23, 2003)

The caffeine in the coffee is an appetite stimulant, leaches calcuim from
your bones, irritates your pouch and makes you retain water. I drank a
full pot every morning before surgery and now six months out I drink two
cups a day with my surgeons blessing. But be aware that some surgeons
don't ever want you to have caffeine again. Because of the caffeine
withdrawal headaches, it would be wise to cut back a little each day before
surgery so you won't think you are dying in the hospital when you cannot
have any. I only drank the decaf after surgery for two weeks then I was
allowed to go to the reg if I just couldn't live without it and I couldn't.
Good luck!!!!!!
