Question:
How long should I wait to start tanning again?
I am almost 2-weeks post-op and I am trying to get back to my normal self! — Denise D. (posted on July 12, 2003)

My surgeon told me to wait a minimum of 3 months (preferably 6) before
exposing the incision scars to a tanning bed. Apparently the rays will
make the fresh scars turn dark brown permanently and this won't happen when
you are finished with the healing process.

I think you need to ask your surgeon. My surgeon let me start tanning at 6
weeks. I didn't ask before that time. I'm 3 months out. I've been
tanning for 6 weeks now. My incision doesn't look brown or nasty. It
looks fine.

I started tanning again about 5-6 weeks post op. The place I go to gives
out little towels to wipe off with afterwards, and so I used it to cover my
incision while laying in the bed. If I used the "booth" to tan
in, I'd just cover it with my hands.
