Question:
How much water can you gulp?
I can now take about 4-5 gulps of water at a time - is that a bad thing? Is it a sign that something may be wrong with my pouch? Thanks for your help! — Kimberley D. (posted on July 3, 2003)

I am 4 1/2 months out. Depending upon what I am drinking from, ie. sports
bottle, glass, etc., I can take 3 to 5 gulps at a time.

No, its not a bad thing. Eventually all of us get far enough out to drink
normally again. Don't worry about drinking too much and stretching the
pouch-can't happen-theres a hole at either end!

Never fear!! The previous posters are right... you do get to the point
where you can drink normally again, no stretching of your pouch either! :~)
I can toss down about 8 to 16 oz. right quick! :~) I'm 18 months out! :~)

I've been told that water can stretch out your pouch, just like food, so
not to drink a bunch at once - but as your stomach stretches to the your
new normal size (1/2 cup for RNY at one year) you will be able to get more
in comfortably.
