Question:
Has anyone stopped snoring?
I am waiting for insurance to approve my surgery. I snore so badly I wake my own self up! After surgery and losing my excess weight will I still snore like that? Has anyone snored like that and quit post op? — heyjude51 (posted on June 23, 2003)

Have you had a sleep study? Loud snoring is one of the signs of sleep
apnea and should be diagnosed and treated before you have your WLS.
Actually, obstructive sleep apnea is considered a co-morb.

Judy, I am exactly one month post op. I had sleep apnea and was snoring
very loud. After the surgery (10-12) days, I stopped snoring as bad. My
mother lives with us and she noticed it. She used to could hear me from
her bedroom!! This surgery was the best thing I have ever done. You will
love it!! God Bless Sherry

I snored terribly before surgery. Even could hear myself when sleeping. I
am now 4 1/2 months post op. My husband says I still snore, but rarely and
no way as loud. I also feel I can breathe easier when I lay down to sleep.
My sleep is also more restful. I wake up feeling like I slept. Good luck
with your surgery. Linda

I snored so loud we had to have a fan on every night. Now I don't snore,
but we use the fan anyway - can't sleep without it!

I snored really bad before I found out I had severe sleep apnea and got my
CPAP machine, I would do what the other person said and have a sleep study
done. It is very bad for you and you lack oxygen most of the time, even if
it has gotten better with weight loss, sometimes it never completely goes
away.....:)

Pre-op my husband said I snored quite a bit. Couldn't sleep on my back as
the snorts would wake me up (I had upper airway resistance syndrome but not
true apnea). Within 11 months and the loss of 95# my snoring stopped
completely.

when I lost the weight around my neck I stopped snoring (ok a bit but not
those loud roof-raising snores). My dad however had a deviated septum and
no matter how little he weighed he snored to rattle the windows (REALLY!).

I snored loud and clear before surgery - even I could hear me. I had a
sleep study and it was completely normal. So no sleep apnea or obstruction.
Well, after the surgery, I immediately and totally stopped snoring. My
sweetie jokes that he needs to hold a mirror under my nose to see if I'm
still breathing!

My husband says I don't snore anymore and I know he doesn't snore
anymore, either! He has been camping with the Boy Scouts and the guy who is
the Scoutmaster always shared a tent with him and another Asst.
Scoutmaster. He joked about the "stereo snoring" with my husband
and the other guy (on either side of him.) He even told me he had to check
on my husband a couple of times just to make sure he was still breathing,
the last time they went camping - he was so quiet! I have had to do the
same thing at home. Beats the heck out of waking up and telling him to
turn over! Another WLS blessing!

I not only snored, but I used to drop off to sleep at work, while driving,
in the middle of a deposition...it was embarrassing and dangerous. Since
losing 270+ pounds, I not only no longer snore, I sleep soundly (ok, except
for when I am hot flashing and have peri-menopausal insomnia, but that is a
different problem), wake refreshed and have no problem with staying awake
during the day. My friends used to tell me I sounded like a chainsaw
convention...even my dog wouldn't sleep with me. But now the only thing
that drives him away is the occasional bout of flatulent fragrance....Good
Luck to you!!!
