Hon, don't worry about gaining weight on the soft foods. Your body needs
the calories to lost the weight - the purpose here isn't to starve
yourself. Remember that at this early stage you are only absorbing half
the calories you take in, so if you get 850 calories, your body is only
using 425 of them. At 10 weeks I was only getting 500 calories a day and
my surgeon was very upset with me. He told me that if I wanted to continue
to lose weight I would up the calories to 1000 - 1200 a day. It was
difficult because I still couldn't eat much but I did get them up close
anyway. I lost 120 pounds in six months and have lost a total of 180 and I
am 18 months post-op, at my surgeon's goal and feeling great. So, don't be
afraid to eat.

Christina, do not be afraid of gaining any weight. Your body may sort of
stabilize for one week like I did when I went from stage 1 to stage 2 of
the diet. Try to concentrate on eating your protein first to get as many of
you calories in as possible. Once you start adding exercise into the
equation you will start needing more calories and you will be able to eat
more, I did. I am had my surgery, open RNY on May 7th and am just about in
the same time frame as you. I have lost 29# so far. Please try to put your
fears aside.
