Question:
2 weeks post op and Hungry all the time!!!

I have constant Hunger. Is this normal. I don't throw up and am able to keep everything down. Even MIlk , which i heard causes dumping sometimes. I am able to tolerate everything. Is this normal. I feel preety good, except for fatigue and occasional light headedness. Is anyone else 2 weeks out and Hungry and tolerates everything. I feel like I can eat like I did before. I wouldn't never try it. But it feels like I can. Is this normal.    — christina L. (posted on May 24, 2003)

I felt just like you do. I'm now 4 1/2 mos. out and lost 59 lbs I don't think that is very much. others say yes. I can eat everything never been sick, never dumped, no pain. I always wonder if Im eating too much. I eat anywhere from a 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food. but wanting to graze a lot. I try to eat good foods. I find water mellon good, because it's cold and wet and mostly fluid. my doctor said even if I'm eating a cup of food a meal that its ok. that I would still lose and its also way less that I use to eat. thats true. I worry a lot. If I'm eating too much. I feel great and look so much better. just want it off faster and worry about reaching my goal. just try to stick to the rules. drink your water, protien drinks and make good food choises, I wish you the best.

I was hungry from 1 month thru the 4th month. I just would have a cheese--soft type--with a cracker to hold me over between meals. I often think I eat like before surgery, but then I realize all the things I have elimated from my diet--bread, potates, pasta etc. All I can really say about being hungry is this; since the 4th months, I haven't been hungry at all.

Christina, this is definately normal. Being on liquid and soft food diets at this time causes food to not stay in the pouch long, so you're hungry. Eventually you will probably not be hungry anymore and not want to eat, many of us go through that- the honeymoon phase. I'm 1 year post-op and was starving the first month, then never wanted to eat the next 6, and now just have normal appetite. I was able to tolerate anything as well, so it's really a good thing! Just make sure you do eat/drink and take your vitamins. Goodluck to you :-)
