Follow your surgeons orders. Mine didnt require it but I asked for it. It
took 2 to wrap around me. I didnt wear it much, mostly for physical stuff
like grass cutting during the first month or two once I was cleared for
these activities. It helped a bit the first week walking over a mile.

My surgeon didn't require one either, and I didn't know enough to ask for
one. But just assume that since your surgeon wants you to wear it, that you
should. Goodluck to you!

The nurses put it on me first day postop but my surgeon took it off as soon
as he saw it and announced it was not necessary. I haven't seen it since.

As soon as it was put on, I took it off and haven't seen it since.

My doctor required me to wear mine for 6 weeks post-op
he said It is very easy to get a hernia in the first weeks
after surgery. Of course discuss it with your doc and follow his rules to
the tee.
Good luck!

My binder was a pain in the butt. but I had to deal with it. My dr told me
to put it back on when I was into my 4th month post-op. reason why was he
said it will help to prevent a hernia from coming. I did what I was told
because I surely didn't want anymore operations no time soon. because of
the binder being a pain. I bought a good girdle instead.

Were all of you binder required LAP patients?

I wasn't required to wear one, my doctor never even brought it up. I've had
5 abdominal surgeries now, and I only wore a binder with my 3rd c-section.
It did help me stand upright instead of the hunchback shuffle that I did
with the other surgeries. This surgery wasn't like that though. I was
pretty much ok as far as walking around, and being able to stand fully
upright. It didn't feel like my insides were going to come crashing out,
like it did with all the other surgeries. So... if your doctor requires
one, wear it. Or if they don't require one, and you'd like to try it, then
ask for one. It certainly doesn't hurt to try it. :)

Hi I'm 6 days post-op (Lap RNY) and my doctor required using a binder. I
find that it helps minimize the soreness from surgery and it's easier to
walk and move around with it.

My doc told me to wear my binder as long as it made me feel better.... when
I felt it wasn't helping me, I took it off. I took it off the night I came
home from the hospital and never put it back on. Listen to your body and
listen to your doc... you'll be fine! Best of luck to you.
