Question:
Is it true that you get bad body odor after WLS?

If it was true, then our support meeting would be intolerable. I have yet to smell anybody. Good hygiene will always win in the end regardless!

I had LAP RNY 4/25...I myself have noticed a diff smell. However, I think it has ALOT to do with the HUGE change in diet. Its nothing outrageous...just diff.

From a dis-information site? Those who bathe do not have body odor. If someone is in full malnutrition yes, they will have odor. But to expect to stink, um, no.

Huh, no. Like someone else has said, I think I smell better because I dont sweat like a pig anymore. Most of the time I go without perfume and no one has complained yet. And trust me, I work with people who would tell me loud and clear if I did offend. Its just a myth from the old days. Sidney Open RNY 10-23-02 down 90+

People:( Very early on in ketosis you might have bad breathe, but thats a short term issue and occurs in atkins dieters too. Long term having lost the weight I smell much better thank you:) BO be gone. Sweating so much in the summer I would shower 2 or 3 times daily... No need for that as a post op.

This *rumor/myth* was started by Oprah (a long time advocate against WLS) and a guest of hers on her show, that stated she opted not to go through with surgery because of "bad odors" post op...meaning probably ketosis. But without explaining any further, she sent millions of people into a panic. Keep some sf breath mints around and wear deoderant...you'll be fine!! Have a Sparkling Day!! ~CAE~

Actually, I am down 124 pounds and I stopped wearing antiperspirant 2 weeks ago and only deoderant when I know I will be very active with NO problems! What a difference!

My body odor has greatly improved, even hubby has commented on it. Seems I don't sweat nearly so much (like getting up from the couch!) and even when I do it's not a stinky sweat.

I'm 2.5 weeks out, and I smell me, but no one else does. Believe me, my family would let me know if I started to stink. My nose has just gotten a lot more sensitive since surgry. Realy. It is just a myth started by people who don't know what they are talking about.
