Question:
My doc wants me on pureed foods before I leave hospital
I am suprosed that the doctor I have switched to wants me to eat pureed foods before I can go home. The Wish Center said 2 weeks on liquids. I was hoping to hear from other who have gone either way. Thanks — Jamie D. (posted on May 1, 2003)

You should always follow your surgeon's instructions regarding your diet -
regardless of what others here may say. He is the one ultimately
responsible for your care - not anyone here...JR

I agree with John, always listen to your doctor, my doctor sent me home
eating tuna salad, egg salad, crackers, he does not follow the liquid guide
lines. And I can tell you he was one of the doctors who invented this
surgery so I really trusted him and it has worked so far. Take care. RNY

You should follow your docs guidelines. I was on pureed for two days in
the hospital and came home on soft foods. (cottage cheese, tuna and chicken
salad and etc. Just do what your doc tells you. They are all different
and generally know what they are doing.

Do what your doc tells you, always. With that said, my surgeon does not do
the liquid diet thing. We leave the hospital eating soft foods. I was
eating chili my first week out with out any problems what so ever. I just
had to chew, chew, chew. Good luck to you. Sidney Open RNY 10-23-02 down

I just had my pre-op on Wednesday. On our second day after lap rny, if we
pass the leak test, we get pureed food....to the consistency of baby food
and then we go home and eat that for a month. They were adament about it
being pureed....not chewing it up really good as they said the stomach
needs time to heal and our teeth can't do what a blender does. I bought
some Stage 1 baby food, which they said is fine...and fine to add seasoning
to it. Hope this helps. I was surprised as well as I had bought all this
broth!

My surgeon does four weeks of pureed foods after surgery, starting after a
leak test the morning after surgery reads okay. Having pureed foods
instead of liquids helps you get used to the new feeling of being full as
the pureed stuff stays in the pouch a bit longer than liquids.

Hi, Jamie. I was on pureed foods at the hospital also. My doctor doesn't
have a only liquid stage. I did fine.

supposed to have been full liquids one week then pureed for 2. I didn't
stick to it, but that was what I was supposed to have done.
