Question:
7 Weeks Post Op, Loss Has Slowed, Should I Be Concerned?

I am almost 7 weeks post op RNY. I have lost 33 lbs. But, now I am only losing about 2 pounds a week. Will it speed up? I started at 5ft 3in and 255 lbs.    — Kim N. (posted on March 24, 2003)

Kim, you sound very similar to me! I am 5'2" and started at 250lbs. and after 10 months, I am now 135lbs. I lost 30 the first month, then 10 pounds each additional. I know some people can lose 30 each month, but it just isn't going to be that way for most of us lightweights. We only have about 100lbs. to lose, so it may come off a little slower. But don't get discouraged, I am 5 lbs. away from my goal in less than a year, which is more than I ever could have imagined. Also, you may hit some plateaus. I probably hit a plateau once a month, but still managed to lose atleast 2lbs. a week. You are doing wonderful! congrats to you :)

I am 5ft 4in and began at 270 or so ... Doctor scales are always heavier! I am now at 9.5 months out and am weighing in at 156. In the first two months I lost 32 pounds then have averaged about 10 lbs per month. Some months are more than others, but averages the same. I think you are doing great! Just remember when you do hit a plateau to keep on track with your eating and the scales will move!

I am 5'3 and started at 249-close in stats to you. Go to the bottom of my profile for a month by month of what I lost. You are considered a light weight so you are doing fine. Keep in mind that we all lose at different rates even those of us who start at the same height and weight so its not a good idea to do comparisons. There will always be someone, even lightweights, that will lose all their weight in like 6 months, and others of us that take a year or more. I'm almost 14 months out and 7 pounds from goal. Others reached theirs faster, and to that I say, good for them but so what! Be happy with your own progress-we all get there in our own time as long as we follow the rules.

I am so glad you guys discussed this. I am 7 weeks post op today and I haven't lost any weight in two weeks. Not one pound. I was about to cry. Glad to see this is normal. I have lost 32 lbs since my surgery though so am grateful for that. :) Keep up the good work everyone!!
