Question:
I just found out today that my surgery date is Feb. 5th.
I am so excited I can't think straight. What do I need to be doing now? What kind of groceries do I need to get in the house. Any special things I will need for whatever afterwards. What do I need to pack. Besides the new underwear I need to buy. haha — Kim N. (posted on January 21, 2003)

Don't forget the SF pudding! My doctor allowed that as soon as I left the
hospital (but check with yours first, because he/she may want you on clear
liquids for a while)... it really helps fill you up, with the added bonus
of calcium! GOOD LUCK!!! (lap RNY 12/18/02, -30#)

HI, Here's a few suggestions you may find useful. First of all, go to a
place that sells restaurant items and get 2oz plastic cups with lids. Then
go home and make up broth or soup, put them in the cups and freeze them.
Then you can just pop them in the microwave whenever you are hungry. You
can also so this with mashed potatoes. Since my husband and I both had the
surgery about 1 month apart, this really helped us. Also, have applesauce,
sugarfree jello and puddings on hand for when you need sweets. I was on
liquds for 6 weeks and this is what helped me. Good luck with your
upcoming re-birth. God bless you, see you on the losing side! I am down
70 lbs since Oct and Dave is down 50 since Nov. Our prayers for a
complication-free surgery and quick recovery.

Go and have a "Before" picture made. You have probably been
hiding from the camera for years. In a year you will hardly be able to
remember what you looked like Before. You can go to Walmart, Sears, Penneys
or any strip mall photo shop and have it done. Get them to put it on a disc
for you and then in a year or two you can go back for your After. Your
surgeon's office will take pics but these will not be as good as one you go
get done yourself. Congratulations and the best of luck to you! hugs,

In addition to all of the other wonderful suggestions, I think you should
keep a journal. I have a big scrapbook with photos and memory stuff, and it
sure has been great to look at now. This is an amazing journey and you will
want to document as much as possible. Also, find a good support group if
you don't have one already. My hospital list was much shorter. Chapstick,
A back scratcher, and earplugs. Good Luck to you and Happy New Birthday!
