Question:
Can shaving your legs before surgery increase possibility of staph?
Seems like I heard that shaving (legs, face, underarms) within a day or two prior to surgery can increase the possibility of staph or other post-op infection. Can anyone confirm or deny? — Sarah R. (posted on December 17, 2002)

I shaved my legs the morning of surgery and when i got to the hospital they
still shaved my stomach along with around my privates area. I dont think
it will cause any infection...if it does i think that would mean that my
hospital put me at risk! Best of luck!

Shaving has been a large part of routine surgical preparation for a long
time. I have never heard that it increases the risk for staff. I wouldn't
worry about it.
To prep a person for a heart bypass, they are shaved from the nipple to the
knees at some hospitals.
