Question:
Which companies are likely to cover WLS?

I am desperately looking for help. I have been applying for jobs left and right looking for someone to cover WLS. Can someone help me out and let me know which companies actually do cover wls...I will be eternally gratefull...Diva    — Princess D. (posted on November 15, 2002)

Home Depot approves WLS. If your non real active they have office type jobs as well as floor sales.

Yep I know several home depot empployees who have gotten surgery. WLS friendly company and that makes me more likely to shop there...

Diva, I have Wausau (administered through Private Healthcare Service - PHCS)through my employer. Although wls isn't a covered benefit, my surgeon wrote a letter outlining all my "stuff" and I was approved the first go 'round. (I weighed 218, BMI 38) Now to some that doesn't sound like alot of weight but bear in mind, I'm 5'3" with a small bone structure, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, depression, joint pain.

Two at Wal-Mart in Oregon had coverage through the insurance at work. If I had known that....I may have gone & taken a job there :-) My health was so lousy at the time, I probably could not have gotten hired.

Safeway (which owns a lot of grocery stores under various other names) has a Cigna PPO plan available to just about everyone that has no exclusion for WLS.

SBC (the phone company) approves it. And approves it ALOT. lol.. I work for SBC Ameritech, which is in 5 states, but SBC itself is in lots of states.

Thanks all. No Safeway or SBC Ameritech near by, but thanks for the suggestions. After a long protracted unsuccessful appeal process with a self funded employer, I was hoping the search for a new job wouldn't be too hard. I know locally Wal*Mart doesn't cover. There is a home depot about 40 miles away, so I am going to check into vacanies there. Again, thanks for your help!
