Question:
My surgery is October 7, my daughter's 2nd birthday is October 11 ...
If I have a complication free surgery, am home in 3 days which will be the 10th, will I be able to particpate in my baby girl's birthday the next day on the 11th? — Angela B. (posted on September 30, 2002)

I don't think you will be ready to sit and participate in a party, why not
have the party a week or 2 later, or a week earlier than your surgery. You
will not only be tired , but not up to having alot of people around, at
least I wasn't.

I agree...you are not going to feel like participating in the party if you
have it on 10/11. If you have complications (hopefully you won't), you
may not even be home by the 11th. Hold the party a couple of weeks later
- your daughter when she grows up will never remember that her 2nd birthday
party was 2 weeks after her birthday...

Honestly, I don't think you'll be able to do anything but rest! I had Open
RNY and came home after 5 days. My first day home, with my then 3 year old
was pretty rough, I didn't feel like doing much - other then trying to
sleep!
I agree that the best thing to do would be to postpone the party for a week
or two, your little one will never know and, in a couple of weeks you'll be
feeling much, much better!

Angela, what a wonderful birthday present to give your daughter and
YOURSELF. You may not be able to do a whole lot THIS year, but thing long
range. So you have to depend on someone else this year to pull off the
birthday party....but just think. YOU will be in charge for the next 21 to
come. And she's so little now, she won't even remember. Best wishes on
your journey. You are doing a good thing!

Thank you all so much for the advice. I will heed to your words and just
have the party a couple of weeks after her birthday. She will definitely
not remember ... Thanks again. I appreciate it.

Angela,
I had my surgery January 25, 2001 and my daughters birtday was January
27th (her 3rd). We celebrated her birthday before my surgery :). Good luck
however you choose to do it. It really is a great gift to her. I wouldnt be
able to be the mom I am now without having had this life changing surgery.
