Question:
Can we drink Slimfast post-op??

Post-ops please help. I know there are a lot of protein drinks out there. I actually really like Slim Fast. Is there something special I should be looking for on the label. In addition to the vitamins, can you recommend other supplements. Please reply if you have tried Slim fast. Thanks keep up the good work.    — stephisav (posted on September 26, 2002)

Look at the sugar g. Look at the sugar g on a real Coke or Milky Way. Pretty close, huh? Look at the protein g. (7g?) Then, look at a protein supplement that mixes with water, like ProScore 100 or ProBlend 55, somethign like that. 30g protein to less than 4g sugar. What you want to shoot for is that kind of ratio. 30g protein to 6g or less sugar. Be aware that some brands will state 1 scoop = 16g protein. That's OK, it has a smaller scoop. Just double the label and make sure the proportions remain the same.

I drank Slim-fast Pre-OP-loved the orange-pineapple. Was appalled Post-op when I went to drink some of the cans I still had and read the label again. Way too much sugar and calories and very low protein. There are much better choices like ISOPURE ZERO CARB and METRX APM 60.

Hi Stephanie,I still use the slim/fast for protein. My doctor told me to buy slim-fast with soy protein,it is lactose free.I can only find the cafe`mocha and chocolate delight.I was instructed to mix it with skim milk for added protein. Two scoops per serving,170cals,2gm.fat,25gm. carbs 12gms sugar and 15 gms protein, plus what you get from the skim milk.It may also be mixed with water.checking the label you will see the vitamins and minerals also. Good Luck on your surgery.

While I would stay away from regular slim fast, slim fast has a low sugar one(still 12gr. of sugar, but hey,,,,it beats 35-40) and it has soy protien. Check the labels.

Slimfast is ok for me, but I have to use lactaid or soy instead of regular milk. I've developed lactose intollerance(sp) since surgery. -Kim open RNY 7/17/01 -131

Regular Slim Fast is very high in sugar. My surgeon suggested that I use Lactose Free Slim Fast. I buy the powder and mix it with water. The premixed is much higher in sugar and I dump pretty easily. He also recommended CarbSolutions but I tried their pre-mixed and didn't like it at all.
