Question:
I weigh about 385lbs and I need to know where I can buy a scale that can weigh me.

I want to be able to weigh myself post-op at home and cannot find a scale that goes over 350lbs. Am I out of luck or is there some place that I can purchase an accurate scale that can register weight over 350lbs? — Angela B. (posted on September 10, 2002)

Angela: Are you working with a bariatric surgeon's office yet? These offices always have scales that accurately weigh up to 500 lbs., and some can go even higher than that. I was 407 lbs. at my surgery and the only scale I could reliably use was the one at my WLS doctor's office. Boy was I relieved once I got below 350 and could weigh at home!

I am in the same boat. I started at 427 and weighed 390 at my last surgical follow-up visit on 8/6. My next opportunity to weigh myself is at my support group meeting on Saturday (that scale goes up to 500 pounds).
I searched around on the web and the scale that weigh up to 400 pounds will run you a couple of hundred dollars (at least).
Better to just weigh yourself at the doctor's visits (not a good idea to weigh yourself too often anyhow) and wait, like me, until you get down to a weight that the household scales will handle (mine only go up to 300, so that's going to be awhile for me).

Latisha, you are a jewel. Thank you so much for the website. I went out there and viewed the scale that weighs up to 400lbs. I am going to buy it. It is only $89.99 which I am sure is a fair cost considering how long I will keep this thing. Thanks again for looking out for me. I appreciate you.

We would go wiegh at the GNC store.. scale goes up to at least 420.. cost 50 cents and you get a nice little print out of your weight and how much you have left to lose!

To be honest, you probably won't need one that goes over 350 lbs. By the time you have your first post-op check-up you will probably have lost that 35 lbs. I lost 36lbs the first three weeks. Save yourself some money (and axiety over what the scale says) and just get the one that goes up to 350 lbs. I'm sure that's all you'll need.

I know the GNC scale I use coincides with the docs scale. Everytime I go to my docs..I go the GNC the same day to make sure nothing changes. That's the only way I know it coincides. I started at a weight of 382 and have been going to the gnc stores for protien, etc. and do the same scale once a week. It costs $0.50 for you to weigh there, but you get a paper readout. I have kept mine, like a time weight loss diary.
