Question:
Anyone heard of, or had a thorasic epidural?
I was talking to an anesthegiologist(sp) and he told me to ask for one. Getting up to wwalk after surgery would be much easier and last for 12 hours post-op. Thanks Julie — Julie S. (posted on August 11, 2002)

I would encourage anyone having this to request an epidural. I had one,
and once they fixed my broken machine, it worked like a dream. I had mine
for 3 days post-op. It was nice not to have the numb legs that went along
with my post labor and delivery epidural.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunately as I was not relishing getting poked in
the back for the epidural), I had been on Coumadin - stopping 5 days before
surgery. However, my Protime levels were still too high on the day of
surgery and they thought it too risky to perform an epidural. I had no
problems with my IV PCA though and getting up to walk post-surgery.
