Question:
I work in a classroom, how long after Lap WLS will I be able to return to school?
I am an aide in a Life Skills Classroom with special needs children. We have 11 students with the Teacher and myself in the room. I don't do any heavy lifting. I am up & down from my desk or the students work area all day. If any one else is in a work area the same or close to mine and you have had lap I would appreciate any advise? — TexFlutterby (posted on July 18, 2002)

I am a teacher. I had my surgery on August 21, 2000 and returned to work
on September 5, 2000, without incident.

I went back to work after 1 week. I have a desk job but I am constantly up
and down and walking around all day.

Hi! I'm a middle school guidance counselor. I went back to work full-time
at 2 weeks. I found that since the nature of my job involves being pretty
active (I sit at my desk, run to a classroom, teach, go back and sit) that
it helped me. Found if I sat too long I got uncomfortable, and the same if
I stood too long, so the constant change was good. Just be careful to rest
when you need to, and bring snacks. Found in the first month I really
needed to eat something every 2 hours or so to keep my energy up. And, the
first few weeks you may just want to go home and crash after school. Good
luck! (I had LAP RNY 2/25/02.)

I returned to a full-time office position, requiring a moderate amount of
walking, 8 days post-op lap RNY. My daughter returned to teaching
pre-school, 14 days post-op lap RNY. We both did just fine....a little
more tired at the end of the day than usual, but no other problems. Good
luck!

I also work in the classroom--I took a very much needed 10 weeks off and I
am so glad that I did. I don't do any heavy lifting butI was much more
tired than I thought I woule be. I could have easily gone back after 4
weeks but I didn't want to, I really needed the time at home to get used to
my new tummy, foods, bathroom issues and myself!

I'm a Kinder teacher and took 4 weeks off during Christmas. However, I could
have easily gone back in 2 weeks.
I was very tired at the end of the day, and went straight home. But...
other than that I was fine. (no pain) LAP
