Question:
My sister had a VGB (gastroplasty) in 1985. could she have the RNY.

Providing she qualifies and there are no medical problems that would prevent it, YES. I know literally hundreds of VBG to RNY people. And BTW, 100% prefer the RNY life to the VBG life, so she would be making an improvement, in case she is concerned about that.

Yes, she could have the RNY. I had the VGB done in 1985 also and am now 8 weeks postop open RNY. Chances are pretty strong that she would not be able to have the Lap RNY but should be able to have it open. They will do several tests to make sure the stomach pouch is useable and maybe even do a gastroscope to visualize it before surgery.
