Question:
how can i post a question without my whole name showing up?
There may be certain questions I ask that I don't want my whole name showing up. How can I do this? Is it possible? — angela D. (posted on April 23, 2002)

Well since they disabled the anonymous feature, you can't. What you CAN do
is register under an alias.

Well here we go again. People saying whatever hurtful thing they want and
not having to own up to it. Yeah if we can't hide behind a wall which we
create for ourselves (hey that sounds like a thing MO people do) we can
always hide behind the wall of anonminty. In my humble opinion this is a
bad idea!!!!

Hi, in your profile you can keep your last name out, and as many other
things as you want and it will only sign your name as it is in your
profile, like me, I opted to show my first name only.

I totally disagree. I have had horribly embarrassing questions that I did
not ask because I didn't want my name, then my profile, then my picture,
than my email, than my webpage available for everyone to connect hemmoroids
and yeast infections with my ME! I could have made my profile private, but
I believe I have some very useful info in my profile and webpage, so why
punish the good people to get back at the bad? We shouldn't...and for that
same reason, we shouldn't punish people that don't want their names and
profiles on public display just because a select few aren't suzy-sunshine.
Besides, if there are people that just want to be rude, it isn't that hard
to create a profile under some bogus name!
Also, I should tell you that after the anonymous posting stopped, I made
the mistake of answering a question about protein pills. I got tons of
positive email from people requesting info; but let's not ignore the fact
that dozens of people clicked my name, clicked my email icon and emailed me
nasty things. After that horrible ordeal, I'm glad anonymous posting is
coming back. My privacy should be protected...nothing should compromise
that just because some like to be nasty. Sorry to preach. :0)

just my opinion...i think anonymous posting is a terrible idea!!! look how
quiet things have been on AMOS since the anonymous posting has been
stopped. anonymous posting encourages sarcastic responses, insults &
inuendos & flaming!!! i found myself avoiding the site because of the
strife anonymous posting was causing. cant we have a vote on this???

Sheryl, from what I understand, these nasty posters are now sending their
hate directly by e-mail to our members. Do you think we can better moniter
who they are if they can post to the Q & A and then do something about
them personally. Hugs Fay

I was glad when the annonomus thing was taken off! There were some really
nasty, bad mannered, people who were "hiding behind it". But on
the other hand there are times when it is good that people could post
annonomus. Perhaps there is a good compromise.
Allow people to post annonomus, but NOT REPLY annonomus! That way people
can ask those terribly embarrassing questions that need to be asked.
However by not allowing others to post REPLYS that way it should cut down
on the smart a##es who are hurtful with remarks that they otherwise
would'nt think of making if they were known. This is what "I
think" is a good idea. I hope the moderators will think about it and
perhaps impliment it for awhile to see if it is a good compromise.

Personally, I think if people can POST anonymously they should be able to
RESPOND anonymously. After all, the question that may be embarrassing to
ask my also be embarrassing to answer. I think let people post
anonymously. If there are some rude comments, so what. People should be
able to express themselves both positively and negatively. Let's toughen
up a little. :)

Toughen up? That's pretty easy for someone to say when they don't have a
profile. What do you have to hide. ;) (Probally a made up profile anyway,
to hide behind).

Yes, toughen up. By your response I'd say you just may be a little
"sensitive"????? I think all people need to toughen up and not
take everything so personally. It's ok for people to disagree and even to
have negative responses . . . kinda like yours! :) (Even though it did
sound a bit immature.) But that's fine. I think we should all be able to
speak our minds.
