Question:
Any one out there been approved even though young and without major Comorbids?

I am 21 and putting in for approval in 4 wks. I have alot of problems because of my weight but none that are listed under most insurance companies " comorbid" list. Anyone out there get appoved even though they are young and in OK health other than their Weight. Thanks    — Kicker (posted on April 18, 2002)

Hello fellow young-person! I am also 21, and was approved with BCBS Anthum even though at this point I am relatively healthy. I DO have Poly-Cystic Ovarian Syndrom (a hormone imbalance that causes insulin issues and infertility), a family history of diabetes and high bloodpressure (mine goes up when stimulated, so I was pretty sure that was just around the corner for me too). But other than that, I don't have apnea, heart problems, joint problems...but I WOULD have them if I continued to be MO. I wrote a letter to the insurance company explaining MY problems, my families history, and what would probably happen to me if I didn't lose weight and why diets were nolonger a reasonable option. That in addition to past diet failures, and letters from my docs I was approved in less than a week. This was more of a preventative measure for me, and they approved anyway. If you ever wanna talk to someone your age that has been there and done this, please feel free to email me personally. The best of luck to you. :)

Hi there. I am 24, a couple of years older than you and I got approved within one day of the surgeon sending a letter to the the insurance. I have no comorbids, except PCOS. Other than my weight, I am in great health. Good luck to you!

I am 31 and I have PCOS. My GYN wrote a letter to the insurance company and I was approved the 1st time around. Other than PCOS, I am almost perfectly healthy. It was discovered that I also have pulmonary hypertension but that was found after I was approved. Good Luck

I was 28 when I was approved. I had no major co-morbids, although I did have a family history of both diabetes and heart problems. Of course, I was 407 lbs., so that was reason enough for my insurance to approve me. I was set up for disaster!

Hi, I'm 20 (21 in 2 weeks) and don't really have any major comorbids at all, but I got approved in a day for Lap DS. Not that bad. Good luck! :)

I was 21 when I had my first surgery (VBG), my insurance did not cover it due to a written exclusion. I am now 28 and have been approved for a revision to RNY. This time I weighed less and the only co-morbid is PCOS, but I do have a family history of diabetes & high blood pressure. I think it just depends on the insurance company. Some will look at your family history and others won't.

Hi, I am 26 years old. I have arthritis in my spine and very, very mild high blood pressure and triglycerides. None of these is what the insurance considers life threatening but nonetheless I was approved in only 4 days. Good luck! June 11, 2002.

I was also fairly young when I had my surgery last year. I didnt really have any major health problems but my doctor was very good about asking the 'right' questions. I had knee and back pain, shortness of breath with exertion, unable to carry on a "normal" lifestyle. And my insurance BC/BS approved it first thing. Some doctors are really good about getting details about how your weight affects your life. Good luck!!!

I am 24 and I also don't have any co-mortalities. The only promblem with me is my weight! I was approved regardless, and am now post-op.
