Question:
Just got insurance 4 months ago after 4 years of having none
I just got my insurance four months ago after not having any for four years. Will there be a problem with my insurance since I am being treated for high blood pressure, edema, etc.. and I want surgery so soon after getting my benefits? — angela D. (posted on April 14, 2002)

Angela, I can't tell you what your situation will be like, but I switched
to Cigna on Jan 1st of this year and was approved in March. The only
reason it took so long was because I didn't see the doctor until March.
Good Luck and God Bless!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm assuming your insurance covers surgery. If so, look at your
pre-existing conditions clause. You may have to wait for however long that
is. Since you didn't switch directly from one insurance to another, they
can enforce the pre-exisiting conditions clause.

I didn't have insurance for like three years before I finally got on my
husbands insurance from his work. That was March of 2001. I had a consult
with my surgeon in May of 2001 and had Open RNY in July of 2001. They did a
lookback to see if I was treated for my obesity in the six months prior to
getting on their insurance. Good luck.
