Question:
HELP! Has anyone in Alabama been covered by UHC?

I am still in the process of trying to get approval. UHC (choice plus) is telling me that they do not cover WLS for any reason unless it is required by state law. Alabama has no such law, but I have seen several of you that said UHC covered it. If you live in Alabama and have had UHC approve your surgery, PLEASE email me (lsy35124@hotmail,com)!! Does your insurance policy have a WLS exclusion in it? It's the employer not the insurance company that is responsible for the exclusion. The exclusion reduces the cost of the insurance so many company's choose to exclude WLS. I was covered by UHC but my employer's policy did not have an exclusion. Talk with your human resources department. Hope this helps.

Actually, my HR person at work has been very helpful. They were completely willing to remove any exclusion policy that was in there, but the UHC people told them that they do not cover WLS under any circumstances except a requirement by state law. UHC is being incredibly uncooperative. I haven't even gotten the full documentation of what our plan does and does not cover. I've requested it but not with any luck.
