Question:
How long will this incision drain?

I lost LOTS of blood during my WLS surgery. My Hemogloban was 3.5 after surgery. The area around my feeding tube seemed to be where all of the blood went. The drainage was not coming from the feeding tube, but from around it. For the first 3 weeks, I had to change the dressing around the feeding tube up to 6 times a day because of the amount of blood that was draining. Today is my 5 week mark (down 39lbs!!! Yeah!!) but the drainage is still happening. When the doctor took out the feeding tube at 3 weeks post-op, he said it would continue to drain for a couple of days. It is now 2 weeks later and it is still draining. The quantity is much less, one bandage a day, but the Dr. wants me to travel 5 hours to let him see it. I am going to see him on Friday, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem.    — Dorothy T. (posted on April 11, 2001)
