Question:
Can you exercise to much?

My surgery is scheduled for 2-12-01! I am very excited! I have already started walking and I'm doing o.k. with it. My question is - Can you exercise too much? I realize that for the first 6-8 weeks walking is the only exercise you can do, but after that I would like to do a cardio video in the morning, strength train 3 days a week and walk for 40 minutes in the evening when my husband gets home. Is that too much? I know that I am being very ambitious, but I need to spend this time on myself now! The window of opportunity will close faster than I want if at 18 month's I'm not at goal! (341lbs pre-op - 160lbs. goal) I have heard that the first 6 months is the best time to form your habits and to lose that bulk of your weight. True?    — Trisch B. (posted on January 1, 2001)

Hi Trisch, I just was reading your posting, and I think you can never do to much exercise, (I'm not there yet do to servre pain in hips and knees) But relax dowhatever you can do. Just keep it simple and do whatever you feel you can handle right now at this moment and everything else will fall into place. I also read your profile and I want to say I can relate. I remember 11 yrs ago when Sam and I got back to gether (he has a daughter now that is 14) his daughter was 3 at that time and we were out to dinner at Bob Evans and I can hear her say "BOY YOU SURE HAVE BIG ARMS">>>as she rub my arm. Sam was so embarrished. I was to and I want to cry, but I just held back my tears and replied "THAT'S BECAUSE THE BIGGER MY ARMS THE MORE HUGS AND LOVE I GIVE" sounded good. this even help me laugh instead of cry. It is hard when people/kids says remarks about our weight. I remember also that I cant forget (I do love my dad very very much but he really upsets me alot) My Dad got re-married 2 years ago and we had a reception for him and his stupid wife..ha ha anyways when dad introduced me to this lady he said "THIS IS MY DAUGHTER, THE ONE THAT CAN'T PUSH HERSELF AWAY FROM THE TABLE." Talk about massive pain, I was so angry I never ateven eat at the reception and went home early and cried and cried, how could he be so cold. needles to say they are divorced only lasted 6months I knew that when I met her. but oh well. Any ways the point is look at the bright side there is an opperatuity ahead of us and a THINNER US to be health, happy, and loving life. Dreams do come true to those that beleive... May you find peace and happiness in making your journey. thinking of you,God bless you.>>>LOL Jay Biller

I joined a gym after surgery and was told by the personal trainer that you don't benefit from more than 200 minutes of cardio work a week. Good luck with your surgery
