Question:
Is it gas? is it dumping?
I am 5 days post op. I did great in the hospital and came home yesterday. I was on clear liquids in hospital, and with coming home, can now move to clear and full liquids for 2 weeks. All I did different yesterday was add a protein supplement x2(extreme pure pro with water), 1 glass of v-8 juice, 3 ounces of strained cream of chicken soup. Last night I had an attack around 3am. I woke up and could not breathe, I felt like my lungs and all my organs were being squezed. I walked around, passed gas, burped, and had a little bit fo liquid stool, and finally I could breathe a little bit better. Today I can still burpy, gassy, and feel a pain in my midsection that is throbbing. i have kept all my liquids down, and have not thrown up at all. What is happening here? I called dr office but they have not called me back yet. Help me please. — claire C. (posted on October 17, 2000)

You dumped...all of the symptoms sound like it anyway. How much fat was in
that soup?? Milk or sugars in that soup. I am thinking that the soup is
what got you. Post back and let us know when you feel better please.
Milk/cream has a ton of sugar in it. I am so sorry you had to experience
this but be glad its over. Just read the labels. I also tend to be able to
take a little sugar if I put in on a semi full tummy. If my tummy is empty
then I have problems. Good Luck, I hope all is better by now.

It sounds like gas to me. Painful episodes of gas are pretty common in a
recent post-op like yourself. It may not be any one particular food that
you ate. You digestive system is trying to get back up and running now,
and it may have a few days of rough spots while it does.

i would definitely stay away from all "cream of" soups at this
time because of sugar/fat content...viola c
