Question:
Since proximal, medial and distal can be slightly relative terms, does anyone know
how 50 inches stacks up? that is what my surgeon removes — claire C. (posted on September 20, 2000)

I had 40" of common channel, which means I had ABOOUT 18 feet
bypassed. That's distal. Our doc considered anything under 10 ft bypassed
to be proximal. Roughly. As Melanie said, each of us starts with a
different amount of intestine, so it's all relative. Her doc measures it
all. Our doc measures what's left in use, not what's bypassed. But I think
50" bypassed is proximal by mst standards.
