Question:
I have phlebitis (or something similar) now, pre-op.
I have inflamation of the capilaries (sp?). I get small knots under the skin that are painful and last from one to two weeks. Does anybody know what kind of risks are added to the surgery if I have this pre-existing problem? — Anne C. (posted on November 3, 1999)

Linda, I don't know if it will affect your surgery. I have had phlebitis
in the past, but did not even think to bring it up to my surgeon. I have
severe varicose veins which he did look at. I wore the compression
stockings during surgery and until I came home (2 days). I had no
problems. Talk to your surgeon. Good luck.

I, too have phlebitis or cellulitis. My PCP can't decide which one but he
keeps telling me they are both treated the same. I have had this since
Feb. of last year. He finally told me that it wasn't going to clear up
unless I lost weight. That was when I decided to check into the WLS. I
did let my surgeon know about this and about how swollen my legs and feet
are, but he didn't seem concerned. He said this will clear up after I lose
weight.
