Question:
This isn't a question, but did you know that IBU will destroy a staple line?
I learned in my support group last week that you shouldn't take Ibuprophen with internal staples...unless you take Zantac at the same time. Since I've been taking prescription doses of IBU for 12 years, I guess it's no surprise that my original staple line is gone. My surgeon thinks it was disrupted within the 1st three months following surgery, due to excess vomiting, but if it wasn't, it certainly would be now. Just wanted to pass that along. — Peggy51 (posted on April 19, 1999)

Our doctor routinely has all his post-ops avoid:
ibuprofen
aspirin
erythromycin
and all NSAIDS (Non-Steroidal Anti-Infalmmatory DrugS)
for all the reasons you mentioned, as well as just PAIN.

the staples are titanium and won't corrode. but Ibuprophin and all NSAIDS
will weaken the skin around the staple line and that's why it fails. They
will also cause ulcers. Our surgeon told us NEVER to take an anti
inflammatory . If you need arthritis medication talk with your physician
there are meds he/she can prescribed that are non imflammatory. Take care
