Question:
LAP Incisions opening??????
I hear stories of OPEN incisions opening up weeks or months after surgery. Does this ever happen with LAP incisions? — Renee B. (posted on November 5, 2003)

Yes, this does happen. Case in point...Me. I am 14 days post-op and the day
my stiches were removed, two of my incisions opened. It's pretty nasty, but
my doc advised I keep them clean with peroxide and bandaged until there is
NO puss, then I can keep bandages off and clean as normal. From what he
said, it's not common but it can happen and isn't anything to wrry about
unless it gets worse or too infected.

Renee, I never thought I would be in this category! I've had three other
surgeries and am a great healer, you can hardly see where my incisions
were.... until my open rny. I was great two weeks out and my incision was
closing well, until they took out the staples and all of asudden I started
leaking and my incision opened again. I have to go back this week and I
think they are going to "pack" it so the wound will close. Just
don't mess with your incision after surgery and if you notice an opening
inform your dr asap!

The incisions are VERY small. My largest one was the size of a quarter.
They put steri strips over the incisions and they naturally heal. I had a
little oozing from the incision right under my breast where my underwire
bra would hit it, but after about 4 weeks that stopped to.
