Question:
Anyone ever have Crohn's and get any surgary done?
Due to Crohn's many docs will not approve my for RNY. Does anybody with Crohn's get anything like DS done though, as it doesn't bypass the valve? — Meg F. (posted on October 21, 2003)

I do not have Crohn's but I have another IBD and that is microscopic
colitis and my doctor with a consult from two other gastro doctors decided
that I would not have a problem with having RNY. I am doing fine and I have
not had any diarreah or any flares ups of my colitis. I was even able to
add some of my old favorite foods back into my diet. I have gluten
sensitivity and had to stay away from any wheat, rye and barley. I can eat
so little of any foods that gluten does not really affect me like it used
to when I would eat volumes of it. Good luck.

i have crohn's and i'm 4 weeks post op and not having any particular
problems, but i'm on a very conservative regimen. i stayed on clear
liquids for 2.5 weeks and am just gently (barely) doing liquids, often
having to revert back to clear fluids for 24 hours. i'm down 40.5 pounds
also. Diana

I have Crohns and I am now 3 months post-op. I had RNY July 16, 2003 and I
feel great. I have not had any problems with Crohns but my doctor does
want me to have a colonosscopy to rule out weather it is active or not at
this time. I have lost 60+ pounds but I am having some pain on my left
side that he's not sure of. I feel better now than I did 10 years ago.
You do not say if you aare having problems with Crohn's at this time but
when I had surgery mine was in remission. I wish you lots of luck.
