Question:
Can you eat to much tuna?
Tuna is listed as a top food by my nutrionist. Can I eat too much of it...I don't mean as in one meal...but as in, can I eat too much if I eat a little every day for a few weeks? Someone said that I can get sick from the mercury inside the tuna? Is this true? — Renee B. (posted on October 21, 2003)

Given the very small portions we eat, I think you would have to eat it
every meal for several years to incur any harm. I ate tuna and salmon
almost every day for close to a year with no ill effects.

I agree with Patty. You'd have to eat an awful lot of tuna to get a
dangerouse level of mercury. Tuna was one of my best friends early
post-op. Eat up!

I read an article, sorry, I dont remembber the source, that said that
children should eat tuna no more than 2x per week because of the mercury.
It said the white or albacore (sp?) tuna has the highest levels. I cut
down a little after reading that. I used to eat it 4-5x per week. It is
such a great low fat source of protein.

Tuna and mercury has been an urban legend for a long time. It was addressed
recently on MSNBC.com and they had "experts" from NIH and the
scientific community explain that you would (and kids would) have to eat
far more tuna than any human could possibly eat to get mercury
contamination.
