Question:
Is it O.K. to use Splenda?

I have read that splenda is made from real sugar. Is it O.K. to use it post-op? I don't want to dump.    — [Deactivated Member] (posted on October 11, 2003)

Made from sugar, but safe for diabetics, so it's safe for us. I've used it to sweeten my frozen strawberries, my occasional decaf. coffee. Hasn't bothered me yet.

Splenda is one of the products my doctor says can be used post-op. Here is a link that list all the products made with Splenda... http://www.splenda.com/library/assets/splenda/productswithsplenda.pdf

I have my surgery on Monday. (OH MY GAWD!!) And my friends and co-workers gave me my last lunch.. (LOL I got my last breakfast in about an hour, and later tonight my last dinner) anyway.. my co-workers gave me a going away party at work. They gave me some splenda hard candies. And we laughed, because right on the bag of candy it says "Excessive consumption may have a laxative effect on sensitive persons." So use wisely. It might not cause you to dump.. but it might cause you to DUMP. Got me? :o) Ok, not classy.. but funny.. hehehe.. Good luck.

Most of the post ops I know rely on it. It is so much safer than equal. I wish they made Diet Pepsi with it.

Hi Lorna...Yes, it is okay for us. I can't live without it now....it's great, no aftertaste...to me, it may as well be sugar (but no dumping) Hugs, Joy

Yes, post op you can have splenda. Many post ops prefer it to equal or nutrasweet because it does not have a after taste. It is made from sugar but is not sugar, i don't quite understand that but thats what it says. You can replace sugar for splenda with equal amounts, exp; cup of splenda to replace a cup of sugar. I use it in my coffee daily. Some do dump on splenda not many though. As to the sf candies made with it, they also have sugar alcohols and yes you can get diahrea if you eat to many of them lol. Splenda has a website with recipes also. www.splenda.com

If I understand correctly Splenda IS sugar but has an added clorine molecule. I love Splenda and use alot of it, yet I'm wondering if years down the road if we will have health problems because of it being clorinated. (If that is a word). I see now that some pop as well as yogurt has Splenda in it. :) I was using tons of Splenda during my first 6 months post op. I was finding that my body seemed to think it was sugar, and I craved more and more sweets. I finally cut down on my usease for that reason. But I have never dumped on it.
