Question:
IUD inplant and surgery
I am thinking of getting the IUD implant for birthcontrol. I was thinking of getting it now, 6 weeks before surgery. Is that safe or should I wait until after my surgery? — Renee B. (posted on September 30, 2003)

It is perfectly safe to get now. I have the Mirena IUD and I LOVE it. It
makes my periods SO light and I don't have to think about it at all. I
HIGHLY recommend it.

I am getting the Mirena IUD put in in 2 weeks and I can't wait (although I
am almost 5 months post op). Do it & that will be one less thing to
worry about.

I had the Mirena IUD before surgery. My body is sensitive to hormones so
it took longer for me to adjust than most. Now I have adjusted and I just
love it and don't even think about it now!

heya hun..just my suggestion..but do it now.. i have an iud..(not sure on
what type..but it is hormone free and good for up to 10 years at time of
insertion).. when i had it done i was told to take motrin before coming in
to the office..it was an in office procedure..didnt take very long..yes it
was painful.. but worth it to me.. and when it was done..i was a bit nausus
and spotted a bit.. told to take more motrin for a day or 2 cant really
remember.. but.. i have had no problems with it.. i asked my obgyn if it
was ok... she said the uterus isnt effected by wt loss..so.. do it
now..while you can take motrin..just my thoughts..
