Question:
I was wondering about eating Tofu for a good source of protein.
Does anyone else eat this. I am still preop, but I was wondering as this being good protein that is easy to eat, like cottage cheese. I especially like the flavored ones that you can buy in the store that are ready to eat. — Corrina B. (posted on August 23, 2003)

Sure, tofu is a good source of protein (soy). I also like the prepackaged
tofu cheese slices in different flavors. And of course, veggie burgers
(especially Morningstar black bean burgers) are also good.

Annette, you may want to wander around in your grocery store's produce
section as that is where many of the soy products are displayed. Over the
months, I have tried the Veggies Chicken Nuggets, various meat and cheese
slices, and the soy hot dogs. There are many of types of soy products
available. Additionally, I have incorporated a soy protein shake into my
line up everyday, and have found that Revival soy shakes are the ones I can
tolerate the best. Revival is available only via their website
(www.Revivalsoy.com). I drink one every morning for breakfast. Mixing it
with 12 oz. of nonfat milk, I get 34 g of my 60g of my required daily
protein right there. (Revival also sells soy protein bars, chips, pasta,
coffee, etc. - - no, I don't work for them; they are just great). I've
read that the presence of soy products in our diet positively affects the
elasticity of skin...you will need this as you lose the weight. After a
110 lb. loss, I have virtually no sagging skin and I believe eating the
various soy products have helped.

That's great that you like tofu. For any tofu hater who might read this, we
are as one. I do find, however, that if you beat tofu (with a food
processor, I mean, not a hammer)to the consistency of cream cheese, and put
a little chives or similar in it, it's really pretty tolearable.

Hi Annette. I also love tofu. I guess that all my years as a vegetarian
stuck with me. I'm 24 days pre-op, and I just asked the nutritionist about
this. She said that some post-ops don't tolerate soy as well as whey. But
if you do, go for it! Just be sure that the fat isn't too high. There are
so many low fat tofu's and tofu dogs, etc. out there. I'm not too worried.
Good luck!
