Question:
HOW slow is so too slow for a light weight?
Hi, I started at 247 on 12/13/02 and it is now my six month anniversary. I now weigh 171, with the scale daring me that at any moment it will bounce back to 174. I am already fighting for every pound I lose and I wonder if anyone had this hard a time and made it to between 120-134 anyway. If so, how long did it take? I am so frustrated. — elaine27 (posted on June 12, 2003)

I can only tell you my experience. I started at 243 and at 9 months out, I
now weigh 161, a loss of 82 lbs. I slowed down alot at about 6 months, but
I am wearing a 12 in pants and a large in shirts. The way I figure it, if
our window of opportunity is 18 months, we don't dare lose it too fast or
we'd wither away to nothing. :) I know it is hard to watch other people
lose 100 lbs. in 6 months, but I have seen 2 other people at work that lost
slow and they still reached goal. So don't worry, it will happen for you
too!

Hey, I am a slow loser, and plateau so bad. I am on a plateau now that is
7 weeks old,I am stuck at 200 lbs. I had my surgery Nov 4, 2002, and my
starting weight was 264, I now weigh 200, so I have only lost 64 lbs in 7.5
months. I am worried too that this is not working for me at all. I went
on a 3 day protein shake and did not lose a lb, I exercise, I drink water
(72oz/day) and I drink protein shakes, and I eat mainly protein, but my
stubborn body won't lose the weight...I don't know what to do.

I was a lightweight. I started out at 268 pounds and 5'8". I hit my
goal weight of 160 in less than 6 months. At 13 months post op I am 139
and wear a size 2 or 4 depending on which store I shop at. What did I do
different? I do about 100-120 grams of protein a day, a ton of water, and
I exercise. Not go to a gym everyday but I do small things. Like park in
the furthest spot instead of the closest, take the stairs, go bike riding
with my kids. I hope this helps. There is more in my profile.

There is a place on bhere that has a weight loss planner. It is where you
calculate your BMI and it gives you a month to month idea of what you
should be losing. and how long it will take you to reach goal.

I started 2 pounds heavier than you and at 6 months post-op I had lost 72.
I stopped losing at 13 months post-op and at 151. You are no where near
finished losing. Whether you will get to 120-134 or whether you even want
to get there at all, you and your body will figure out in the next 6 months
or so. I thought I wanted to get to 140, but at 151 and a size 10, I'm
pretty happy with that and the only way I can go lower is to eat less, and
I'm just not willing to do that! Follow the pouch rules-eat good foods-
EXERCISE and you will continue to lose. don't worry about the pace-we all
lose at our rates.

Darlene, I am still pre op my surgery is June 30th. I too am worried about
slow weightloss and reaching goal. I am 5'3 and 240lbs. Here's my opinion
and maybe it's a selfish one but it's honest. I read posters to tell us
that they are happy at 20-30lbs over goal weight. But for myself I'll be
darned if I have my insides rearranged and have to change my whole
lifestyle I won't be happy until I reach goal or under. Some people may
"settle" and say that they just don't want to eat less to lose
the extra 10-15lbs and if that works for them great! But I know for me I
can't settle. I won't EVER let myself get MORBIDLY OBESE again!!!! I'm not
saying it will be easy to not eat cookies or ice cream or chocolate again
but that's how I got so fat in the first place. Why go through WLS if your
still going to fall back into old habits. To me it's too high of a price to
pay to fail. But I'm going to work my butt off to get to were I am truly
happy and not just telling myself I am. Good luck to you and take care!

I have lost 38 lbs in 4 months. Seems slow to me, I have had 2 plateaus. I
am scared as well but the scale is moving and on my short frame a 38 lbs
loss is noticeable. I just keep trying to do the right things and hopefully
it will keep moving.

My surgery was 12/5/02. I'm 5'7" and started out at 265. 6 months
post-op I'm 177 - 88 pounds down. My goal is 145. I honestly don't do much
as far as routine exercising. I try to get in the protein but it's hard to
get it all in some days. I do good to get 50 grams in in a day. I don't get
all the water in I should. I take my vitamins fairly routinely (I take
Vista Vitamins) and a B-12 injection each month. I use the stairs at work -
I walk a lot at work - I play with my kids. I'm in a size 12 at the moment.
I'm very happy with my weight loss. I want to lose the remaining 30 pounds
- I have a year to get there. I don't want to shock my body anymore than I
already have...slow is a good word to me now. Good luck!
