Question:
I work nights and am awake more hours than I sleep, when do I eat?
I work as a pbx operator in a hospital (a VERY sedentary job) and the hours are 11p - 7a sun - thurs. I also attend school most of the time and has conditioned myself to maybe sleeping at 6p - 10p and maybe some cat naps here and there. I am wondering when I do eat at work and at home is that considered grazing? My choices are healthy ones I think like yogurt, cheese, meats, and beans. I also drink lots and lots of crystal lite. But I also find that it is harder for me to eat and drink at night now than it was in the day time. I just started back to work after surgery on Monday night. I am five weeks post-op and still on soft solids more or less. Lap rny distal. Down 26#. Suggestions please. — Diana D. (posted on June 11, 2003)

If you're nibbling or eating more than every two or three hours, then yes,
that's grazing. If however you are having 2 to 4 ounces of food every 2 to
4 hours then that's a meal!

I am in the same boat... I am a total night owl. Good example.... it's 2:30
AM, now & I obviously am not in bed! I stay up til anywhere between 2
& 5 AM. Then, I get up (barely) to get my daughter off to school at
7:30. Then, I go back to sleep until about noon. I jump up, take my
vitamins, eat, shower & go to work. I get off around 9 PM & it all
starts again.I think the trick is to remember 6 small meals/snacks a day
& drink 64 oz of water. I am not having breakfast until noon & my
final snack is usually around 1 AM. There are 4 other meal/snacks in
between that time. I am 7 weeks out & down 42 lbs! So, I must be doing
something right.... PS, my surgeon called me a light weight starting out.
That cracks me up, still! Check out my profile, if you'd like. It is pretty
informative.. Good luck.
