Question:
I would like to hear from others that had 75cm bypassed, how did you do?
I am concerned about my chances of reaching my goal weight with only having 75cm bypassed. I know this is a much healther way to go but I just want to know what to hope for as far as weight loss. — missysworld (posted on April 26, 2003)

I don't know if everyone would agree that a 75 cm. bypass is a "much
healthier way to go," as a good surgery choice varies so much from
individual to indivdual. But, I had 75 cm. bypassed with my open RNY.
Like you, I was a "lightweight" (BMI was exactly 40 on day of
surgery). I reached goal (147 lbs.) just one week shy of nine months
post-op, and have overshot it by five pounds (to 142 lbs.) in the two
months since then -- and I hope that's *it* for losing. My opinion is that
how much you lose and keep off will depend a lot on factors like exercise
(which I do a lot of, though not as much as some folks here), eating a
relatively high protein diet, and limiting junk food. Plus, of course,
just plain luck!

I agree with you about the proximal bypasses causing less of a concern with
supplementation and malabsorption issues. I had 75 cm bypassed last July
17 and have lost 172 pounds to date (427 down to 252)...JR

I had 75cm bypassed and had a BMI of 40 the day of surgery 8/7/02. I now
weight 124lbs. I have lost 88 lbs. 212/124/108lbs.

I had 80 cm bypassed on January 15, 2003. On the day of surgery, my BMI
was about 39. I have been losing slowly, but steadily, and my weight now
is down 39 pounds, from 222 to 183. I'm about half way to goal, which
isn't bad for about 3-1/2 months out.
