Question:
how do you not lose the faith
I started at 247 on Dec. 13th and as of April 14th, I am down to 185. I spent 5 days walking 8 hours a day in Orlando, but nothing dropped. I don't fee as if I am being on track or successful. Maybe I need menu ideas, I just don't know what to try at this point. I go for intense workouts 2x a week, and I walk a lot the other days. I eat protein first, drink more than I did preop, but really, aren't I going to be crowned as the Queen Bee of slow losers? Please help. — elaine27 (posted on April 21, 2003)

No, I get to be the queen of slow losers, not you! LOL! I started at 242 on
December 11, and now I'm at 192. You've lost more than me! I'm the Queen!
I'm the Queen! Somebody send me the crown, dammit!

i am 7 months post-op and have lost 74 lbs. Do I care? Not really,
because I am losing it steadily and am feeling like a new person. I have
no doubt that I will be at goal eventually. Some of us are just slower
than others.

Sorry, Diana but I have to take your crown. I had open transected RNY on
5/13/02 and have only lost 60 pounds. I haven't lost anything in the last
4 months. I beleive that I am doing all of the right things. I can't win
for loosing or should I say NOT LOOSING!!!

I guess it's all in your perspective. I think your weight loss is
fantastic. . .especially for a light weight!!! I'm sure there are a lot of
people out there who would take that in a heartbeat!! I'm a slow loser, in
comparison to some. I'm 12 weeks out and only down 54 lbs. But, I'm
diabetic and almost 49, which were 2 strikes against me, as far as
"speed" goes. I get discouraged at times, too, but let's try to
be grateful for what we are losing!! Keep up the good work. You will get
there eventually!

Some people are heavy, not because they are big eaters, but because they
have very slow metabolisms. If you are one of those that fall into this
catagory then the fact that you are losing period is great. Have you ever
lost that much in four months before. Probably not. You are doing great!
Plateaus are going to happen. Its the nature of the beast, but they do
break and the weight loss will continue. They say that eighteen months is
what it takes. You can't run a marathon in 18 minutes so take your time and
go the distance.

Let me preface this by saying I don't mean to come down on you personally.
I know we all go through emotional issues with weight loss, and we're never
as good as we think we should be. That being said, however, these types of
questions make me CRAZY. I am down 63 pounds or so (surgery 10/21/02), and
every day I wake up so proud of myself. And then I come on here and read a
question like this and begin to doubt myself. (Don't worry, it doesn't
last long :) I guess what I'm saying is this: darlin', there are those of
us who are slower losers. There are those of us (not me, knock on wood)
that have had complications, and health issues relating to the surgery.
And there are those of us who, like the last poster, do everything right
and still its slow going. Count your blessings. You are down 61 pounds in
4 months. You're not a slow loser, you're a speed demon. So...to all of
you who want to post about how slow your loss is, remember this: if you're
doing everything your surgeon says, your weight WILL come off.

When was the last time you lost 62 pounds in 4 months?

(Diana L.- The crown weighs 10 lbs. Nobody wants it! LOL!) I had lap RNY on
10/29/02 and I am down 55 lbs. Do I feel good? Yes! I walk a lot every
day with my dog - and did all winter. I recently had a graded exercise
test with thallium and absolutely ACED the darned thing! (They hook you up
to an EKG machine and put you on a treadmill, then increase the speed and
incline until you feel like you can't keep going. I almost ran out of time
and was still going! They had to inject the thallium for the
"stresed" pictures, but I could have kept on going. And my doctor
said my numbers were great!) Am I a success? You bet! There is NO WAY I
could have done that 6 months ago. Success with weight loss surgery isn't
necessarily measured by a scale! (Another weird thing - last night I bought
2 swim suits, one a size 16, one was a 20. Not sure I will keep them, but
they both look pretty good. I also wedged my butt (I think that was my
butt; perhaps a smaller butt sneaked in)into a pair of white size 10 jeans.
I little snug, yet, but nice to have since I know they will fit
eventually.) BTW, I spent 4 days over Thanksgiving last year at Islands of
Adventure/Universal Studios, etc., walking and moving all day, and I came
home weighing the same, then, also! Guess what - you are probably building
muscle! You may actually be burning fat, but building muscle at the same
time, so you weight hasn't changed, but it will! Keep the faith, you are
doing great!

The wight loss can be annoyingly slow, that's for sure. I lost about 50lbs
the first three months, and it has taken me another 9 months just to lose
35....but I am normal now, and my guess is that you are too...so revel in
that, and be happy. God bless...
