Question:
Has anyone felt worse after a dialation?
I had an endoscopy done today with a dialation of my outlet. Since then I have already thrown up 3 times after I tried to eat dinner(couldn't eat, but tried) and I keep burping gas out. I feel worse than I did BEFORE THE DIALATION! Has this happened to anyone else? Am I ever going to stop this throwing up? I thought by being dialated I would be all better but it seems like thats not going to happen. I am scheduled for a second dialation a week from today and I'm thinking about cancelling it because I am afraid I will be able to eat too much and gain my weight back. But I also dont feel like the dialation has helped any at all today. I still feel like the food is crawling back up in my throat. Can someone please give me some advice????? I am soooooo down over this. I have lost 106 pounds but I have thrown up the whole 9 months too. I guess I'm just tired. Please tell me something I can take or do to help me. — Ju Ju P. I've had 4 EGDs (dilatations) so far, and I've had to take it easy foodwise
on the day of the procedure. The first time I had it done, I felt relief
(my stoma had closed up pretty tight), but started getting nauseous from
ice chips. Thankfully, the next day, things were much better. Unless it's
against your doctor's advice, I'd suggest sticking with fluids on the day
of the procedure, and moving to food the next day. Good luck!

I have been dilated 6 times. (open RNY 10/16/02) Each time it has been a
different experience. Some times I can leave and go eat a normal meal.
Sometimes I can't eat solids for 2 days and am really sore. If it has to be
done, it has to be done. You can't go around with a consticted sphincter
and throwing up all the time.
