Question:
How does one prevent staple disrupture?
In the previous qustion about staple disrupture I asked a question about this but must of not typed it just right. I am sorry. My fingers weren't working or brain as well as they should have. Barbara — Barbara T. (posted on February 12, 2003)

Barbara, I asked the Doctor the same thing when I was diagnosed. His
answer was that 1 percent of the time some bodys reject the staples. The
only way to really avoid this is to make sure your Doctor does a
transection. My Doctor only began doing this after my surgery in June.
This time my revision will include a transection. He also informed me that
at times excessive vomiting early on can also help move the process along
by putting undone stress on our new pouches. Best advise I can
give....make sure you are transected and be real sure to follow the post op
diet to the T. I sit hear and shake my head when I read about new post ops
eating chips and swaying from their post op diets in the first 5-6 weeks.
I think to myself what the heck was the point if they are not going to
commit to making a life change. OK, I'll step down off my soap box now!!!

Thanks Cindy for answering my question. I too read about people eating all
kinds of things like going to Taco Bell almost the next week out. I don't
want to go through all this to land myself back into the hospital for
stupidity on my part. Just another comment though. I do drink tons of water
and and am preparing myself for the day I do get to have the surgery. One
have given up diet colas trying to eat my protein first and not putting a
glass of water at the table when it is time to eat and many other things so
I won't be caught off gaurd by saying to myself after "I Didn't Know
That"!
